A Pillowfort Full of Dragons

Imagine for a moment that there is a gargantuan pillowfort made of only the coziest pillows, forged from the softest feathers in existence. This highly impractical structure was built for only the fluffiest animals. Someone said to themselves, that if they built this highly impractical structure, that the animals would show up for the comfyist petting zoo ever.

Just as the final pillow is set in place, the fort is filled to the brim with small dragons. The dragons fight, devour one another, and ultimately burn the structure to the ground. But who couldnt predict that such a thing would happen?

The builders believe that if they build it, the fluffy animals will come to them for the flimsiest protection available, because reasons. In return they are met with the ashes of their creation, destroyed from the inside out.This allegorical narrative is brought to you by the unfathomable stupidity of the people developing a website called Pillowfort.

io. What is pillowfort? Well imagine for a moment that tumblr and livejournal had a baby.

Then that baby was made to protect the weak and downtrodden, but the people they believe are weak and downtrodden are just assholes who poison everything they touch. That is pretty much the idea of pillowfort.Pillowfort is supposed to be a new kind of microblogging social media site to protect people from trolls.

Which sounds good in theory. The problem with this, is that knowing the kinds of people on tumblr who would use a site like this, it promises to go the way of google plus and in a fraction of the time.One of the many reasons that google plus fails as a social media platform, is that the original idea was that you create small intimate social circles.

Now of course you can now add whoever you like and however many people you like, but it hasnt managed to save the platform. What makes social media successful, is not merely talking to friends, but the ability to talk to complete strangers with ease.Building a social media site that lets people create a digital safespace, would be a kind of career suicide on a level that I have never seen before.

It looks good on paper, because the assumption is that if you build this big cuddly fluffy safespace, that bunnies and kittens will be the ones to join. What they dont know is that the people who constantly complain about trolls and hate speech, are often just as mean and hateful as the people they speak against.In short they think they are inviting bunnies, puppies, and kittens to a party.

They believe that these poor fluffy pets and woodland critters are being bullied by dragons. When in reality they are shapeshifting dragons that came to the fort to escape other shapeshifting dragons. At first itll be okay because theyll say, Its just us cute and fluffy creatures in this pillowfort.

Isnt it nice? Well right up until one of them says something problematic and then they argue until theyve blocked half the people they thought they liked. Theyll end up blocking people until they are sitting alone in their safe space with no one to talk to.

At that point they will have created a space for them to talk to themselves and have the illusion of social media without being social media. What do you think the level of financial failure will be on what amounts to an anti-social, social media platform?Like most projects created by social justice warrior hipsters, theres no release date.

Theres no details on how theyll really create any of this stuff. We have only the promise that they are definitely developing something like this. But you know, none of that will matter to the couple thousand morons that will fund this project once they take it to a crowdfunding site like kickstarter.

At this rate well see a launch in five years. That is, if they dont take the money and run to some tropical country instead.Right now Pillowfort exists only as a minimalist tumblr page, and as an idea in the minds of our allegorical shapeshifting dragons.

The easily offended say they want safe spaces, but their actions say otherwise. They are irrelevant in the scheme of things. If pillowfort was a thing that launched tomorrow, and the social justice hipsters all migrated there, the world would keep turning.

Twitter and tumblr would still be popular. They would just have a few less assholes present overall.I do however, actually hope that this site gets made.

Because in doing so, I think people on tumblr and twitter would come to realize how much nicer these sites are without these angry politically authoritarian harpies. Maybe in doing so, theyd realize just how irrelevant they are overall and what theyve become. Some might be scared that the, more tumblr than thou crowd would be there in one place.

Im not. When it goes live Ill make an account, camp out, and watch the entire place burn to the ground. Because there is nothing more disturbing and beautiful, than social justice warriors devouring their own and coming to the realization that they are all assholes calling eachother assholes.
