My dog is licking herself raw....?I have a 4 yr old rescue jack russell. He became part of the family during the middle of this year. He has the same issue. We took him to the vet and he said it was probably allergies. We changed the food for the one she recommended. It turns out that food only medicates the dog to stop the itching but continues to be crapy food. The dog ate the bag but still continued licking his paws. We discovered it was an issue of him being bored. As you know Jack's have a lot of energy and need to be constantly moving. We got him tons of toys but as soon as he would be bored he would lick his paws again...to the point there was no more hair. We started putting him socks and it helped to keep him distracted for a bit. My vet told me to put a bit of neosporine to prevent infection. The sock would last half the day and he ended up taking them out. But I was more persistent and put it back again until his hair grew back. The solution to his licking was a lot of exercise. And I know about the squeaky toys!!! Mine loves to do the same thing. I got him a Kong with a squeaker that he is allowed to use only during the day and when we are not watching tv. Get her a Kong the one that you can put treats in it :) She will love it and she will keep herself busy:)

What is a good product for getting rid of fleas on the lawn?.... My dogs are out door dogs.?
Try K-9 Advantage.
We got it because of the cute commercial :0)
It really helps, though, and MAKE SURE you put flea medicine ON your dog(s). That helps a lot !!!
Good luck, i've got a 6 yr old bichon. Bichons are known for skin probs. but we use medicine, watch him, and he is alright. Also, we stoned part of the backyard, and fenced it, so that is where the dogs roam when we are not supervising. Since summer is coming up, that could be a good project for your family. They dont get fleas from the stones, and it is easier to pick up their poop. Also, when you are watching them, unlatch the gate and let them go in the grass !!
The original reason we did this was so they didnt drown in our backyard lake, but we soon realized it had manyyyy other benifits!!! GOOD LUCK AND TAKE CARE!!*

monthly costs of taking care of a dog?
Owning a dog can be expensive, but also extremely rewarding. As far as cost, you should consider things like...
Food
toys
bedding
routine veterinary care
unexpected veterinary care
Also, you should do a little research on the breed of dog that you are looking to adopt. Certain breeds are more prone to medical and other genetic issues that may end up costing you down the line. Knowing in advance, can make you better prepared to take care of any situations that may arise.
As for food, I have a German Shepherd and I feed him Taste of the Wild brand pet food. It is a great brand with no grains. (German Shepherds can be prone to food allergies, especially to grains.) The price is about 40 to 50 dollars a bag which can seem a little high, but it is worth it. If you start out feeding your dag a good, balanced diet, it can save you on veterinary care down the road.
I've heard a lot on the raw diet craze. Some people like it and some don't. If done well, it can be great for your dog. However, if you don't really know what you are doing, it can be very hard to make sure that your dog gets all of the nutrition that they need.
Good Luck and congratulations on your soon to be, new member of the family.

Does anyone go on vacation with their dog(s)?
We thought it would be a good idea to bring our dog with us for Thanksgiving with family and it was a HUGE mistake. As much as our beagle's behavior has improved at home, and he is VERY well behaved, he was pretty stressed out with all the new surroundings and we ended up spending a lot of time in our hotel room with him rather than visiting with our relatives at their home (where he was welcome, but we didn't feel comfortable because of his behavior).
So, if you're going to camping and can keep him with you much of the time, that's great. But if you're planning on a lot of restaurant dining or public sight-seeing activities, maybe it would be best to leave the dog at home.
We did find that bringing a milk jug full of fresh water, and a disposable plastic container or collapsible water dish, was a good idea. (The water available at rest stops, etc. is not always very good, so bring some from home!)

What are ways to keep dogs entertained?
We all need to work, however we don't need dogs. Dogs need people, people don't need dogs.
If you cannot make provision for your dogs in your absence, like involving family or paying a dog walker. Your dogs will always be lonely, bored and miserable.
Your question is aggressive, look at your opening gambit, I have pasted this "I do feed them, walk them and every thing so don't give me any of that !!"
You obviously have a short fuse and you want to dictate the replies to your question. I suspect that you are also impatient with your dogs.
They will play games with you, however they are incapable of playing games on their own.
Walks don't consist of a quick walk around the block before you leave them. They need a LONG walks, you should also come home at lunchtime and pay a dog walker to give them additional walks. Home alone dogs need more exercise than those who have company during the day.
Get real, dogs do not entertain themselves.

Help! Will my puppy grow out of picking up and protecting rubbish/plastic bags during walks?
Jojo's right - you should be able to take the prized object out of her mouth at any time - for her own safety as well as your own. If you are not the boss, it is a very dangerous situation. I think you should find another trainer via your vet - someone with large strong dog experience who is not so 'touchy-felly' with them. It is too risky to have any dog think they can negotiate with you about what they do and don't want to cooperate with - there are too many times when it is not safe for anyone. If there is anything you don't want her to do, don't let her do it - period. The only thing they grow out of is peeing frequently and teething, otherwise, everything else is just being practiced for adulthood. Be careful - this is a lot of dog, and you want to make sure she's a safe pet to have, or she will pay with her life. Honestly, this is not a dog I would have ever recommended for a first time dog owner, and if you are having trouble keeping control of her at any time, you should always speak to her breeder about that. It may be that a trade-in is warranted.

Please HELP! I am at a complete loss of what to do about My dog.?
You got the dog when she was 4 weeks old. That is WAY too earlier. You cannot take a dog from it's mother until it is at least 8 weeks old. Removing a dog too soon results in a dog with training problems, behavioural problems and health problems. The trainers were 100% right.
$1000 for dog training actually is not that much, pretty normal. Each class costs about $200, where I live and they quickly add up. Most dogs need to or should go to more than a couple obedience and socialization classes.
You need to either buy a carpet cleaner (like a vacuum, but a carpet cleaner/steamer) or have someone come in and clean your carpets. Until you completely remove the smell from your home, she will keep peeing and pooping. The smell is basically an invitation to go. So you must have your flooring cleaned, very thoroughly. Just using cleaning products is not enough. You have to clean them very thoroughly, then do it again and again.
It is simple, you need to keep the dog crated when you are not home and when you are sleeping. Dogs must earn the right to more space, it is not a right. If you feel bad about keeping her in a crate (I would) then how about an exercise pen? You can get strong ones that she won't be able to knock down. It will give her more space. Don't put anything in the pen that she can chew (other than toys of course).
If you have been using trainers, then why have you not talked to them about this? Destroying the house and having accidents are some of the most common problems.

What to do if your dog starts barking on the plane?
I would consider purchasing a bark activated citronella collar for the dog. NOT a shock collar, but a citronella spray one. Use it when you are gone or when you are having problems with the dog barking. Be sure to check to see that it has spray in it and that the battery is good, you can do this by blowing into the little hole on the side of it. After purchasing the collar, I would write a letter to the neighbors and explain that the dog is accustomed to the country and you are sorry for him disturbing them. Also mention that you purchase a non harmful training collar which should help correct this behavior. Include your phone number and encourage them to call you if the dog persists on barking when you are gone, it is the only way you can know

My dog is afraid of the agility tunnel?
You went a little fast is all. Go back to straight and shorten the length where she is comfortable. Back to 4 inches if you have to.
I would use clicker training. Click & treat when she exits the tunnel. Have someone hold her back at the entrance while you encourage and call to her for a few seconds until she is excited, then have them let her go, when she exits, click, treat (or toy) and party. This will help build drive for the tunnel.
Extend the length a little at a time only after she is driving thru confidently at each step. When she is driving thru full length, only then start turning it. 6 inches at a time. making sure she is driving thru full speed before you turn it more.
Don't worry, she will get it.
Most important, don't get frustrated and don't yell or correct her. This needs to be FUN.
