A babysitter has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child for the death of a 6-month-old baby boy left in her care, police said this afternoon.Demelin Castillo, 24, of North Plainfield, was charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and was arrested at the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Thursday, Prosecutor Wayne Forrest said. The baby was pronounced dead at about 12:23 p.
m. Thursday at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.North Plainfield police responded to Castillo's house on Watchung Avenue, where she was babysitting the boy, Forrest said.
Police and emergency personnel found the child unresponsive, lying face down on a futon mattress that was on the floor, Forrest said. The baby was wearing a jacket, which would have constricted his movement.Castillo had left the baby unattended for an extended period of time, resulting in his death, police said.
