Is Pillow Talk By Charlotte Tilbury The Perfect Nude Lipstick?In my quest to find the perfect nude lipstick, one that flatters my lips, evens them out, brings out the colours in my eyes and somehow just perks everything up to make me look a little more pulled together and pretty, I've tried a few.So what constitutes the perfect nude lipstick?

Firstly, and I know there will be many people who don't agree with this, I don't like a nude lipstick to be paler than my lips. My skin definitely errs more to the side of English rose than dusky beauty, and pale skin and pale lips just don't seem to work, on me at least. What I prefer, is something that looks very similar to the darkest tones in my lips, which are a mix of pale reds, auburns and even a little purple.

I think, as a rule, this is a good starting point for anyone in picking great nudes that work for you. If you follow the tones that are already in your lips, then they will tend to match your skin tone too. In my case, because pale lipsticks make me look vaguely corpse-like, I pick the darker tones in my lips and try and match my lipstick to that.

Having seen the enormous amount of publicity that Pillow Talk has generated I was drawn to its claims of selling one lipstick every two minutes- that many women can't be wrong, can they?Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick PackagingLike the rest of her makeup range, Charlotte Tilbury's lipstick packaging has an air of glamorous decadence. Reassuringly weighty in the hand, it feels expensive and high quality.

As with all her products, the casing is a shimmering rose gold, and in the case of the lipstick, is grooved to prevent it slipping from your hands.The bullet itself has a square, angled tip. This is designed to replicate a lipstick brush and although it feels somewhat odd the first time you use it it is definitely an improvement on a standard lipstick bullet shape, allowing for far more precision.

Matte Revolution Pillow Talk Lipstick FormulaDespite the Matte Revolution name, as someone who fears matte lipsticks because of their lip-drying properties, I find this formula surprisingly comfortable to wear. Although the finish does appear matte on the lips, it feels more velvety and nourishing than any other matte lipstick I've tried. I would equate the feel more to that of a satin than, for example, a matte liquid lipstick.

According to the Charlotte Tilbury website the formula is enriched with lipstick tree and orchid extracts to nourish and hydrate. Whilst I must confess to absolutely no knowlege of what lipstick tree extracts might be, they do appear to work, as the formula is surprisingly hydrating even to someone with dry lips like myself.Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lipstick ShadeIn the bullet Pillow Talk appears to have a mixture of brownish and purple tones.

I was surprised upon first receiving it at how dark it appeared in the casing, simply because the Charlotte Tilbury website describes it as a nude pink. However, on swatching on my arm I could see that when swatched it had much more of a pinky, peachy tone that looked substantially lighter than in the bullet.Swatched on a base of the pale skin of my arm, the colour was peachy and quite pale.

However, when swatched on my lips it looked darker and had less of a peachy tone and more of a brownish, purply-pink colour to it. I also noticed that the shade of this lipstick really seems to shift depending on the light. In bright light it can appear almost pink and quite pale; in darker lights, it seems almost purply.

The Charlotte Tilbury website has images of this lipstick shot on a range of different skin and lip colours- I do think that the shade shifting qualities of it mean that it would look quite different depending on the base colour of your lips. Equally, although it doesn't appear the same shade on everyone, it does genuinely seem to suit every complexion. On my own lips, I find it does give a very pulled together, natural look.

Is Pillow Talk The Perfect Nude Lipstick?I'm not sure whether it's the formulation of the Matte Revolution lipstick in Pillow Talk that is the issue, or whether it's something about the shade that stops it being my absolute holy grail lipstick. I think, were it in a slightly more sheeny formula I would prefer it- I'm not quite convinced that matte lipsticks are as flattering as they might be on drier lips like mine.

However, matte lips are wildly popular so if that's something you prefer this might just be the perfect formula for you, with its nourishing feel, but matte finish.The colour is exactly what it claims to be; a pinky nude that really does seem to suit everyone. I love the way it transforms on different lips and how it really is like the ultimate nude- being neither too pink, too brown or too purple.

It's the kind of shade you could wear absolutely anywhere without being out of place- it would happily sit alongside bare skin and a swish of mascara on a hot summer's day. At the same time, add a layer of foundation, some eyeshadow and a strong brow and it would be perfect for a business meeting or with a swoosh of blush, just the thing for a wedding. So while the search for my ultimate, life changing nude lipstick continues, Charlotte Tilbury's Pillow Talk is, in the meantime, the best one I've discovered yet.
