These times are used as a way to compare yourself to your peers throughout the country, as a way to measure improvement, and as a meet management tool. AAA times are usually equal to ZONE time standards and AA is usually a minimum for most LSC/State Championship meets (depending on the size of the LSC).

Team also set up meets geared to a particular level of swimmer so that slower swimmers can win or place in B meets while A and AA swimmers can have great competition.
