Later after ceding India, a tripartite agreement was signed by Nepal-Britain-India to continue this regiment, now called Gorkha Regiment. Only ethnic Nepali Gurkhas and ethnic Indian Gurkhas can be enlisted in this regiment. This regiment is one of the most awarded regiment in India and have won many Gallantry awards.
