Alarm clocks are unpleasant. With an ear-piercing beep they shock you out of deep slumber, leaving you bleary eyed and with a heart pounding heart. But a new form of air conditioning for your mattress could be about to make that annoying morning call a thing of the past.
The Bedjet is a ultra rapid cooling, heating and climate control system made for your bed that can double up as an alarm clock. The BedJet v2 describes its alarm function as 'a natural bio-hack wake up time'.
The feature subtly alters a person's core temperature - by raising it slightly - at the time of their choosing. The makers claim that, just like bright sunlight filling a bedroom, this activates a 'circadian reaction' in your brain, gently telling your body's internal clock that it's time to wake up. Over the course of a night the Bluetooth-enabled BedJet v2 make continuous temperature adjustments in your bed, designed to help you fall asleep faster, stay there longer and wake up feeling more refreshed.
The cooling function helps hot sleepers and thosesufferingnight sweats and hot flashes; while for those who tend to feel the cold, the mattress heats up to 30C within three minutes. Sensors take any changes in ambient bedroom temperature into accountover the night and make adjustments accordingly. The system also has a special temperature neutral sweat drying mode which ventilates the bed, pulling all the moisture off a person's body but without freezing or overheating.
Makers of the BedJet also claim that their device is safer than the traditional electric blanket, because the electrical component of the device is placed outside of the mattress. For couples who have very different sleep needs, two BedJets can be combined with an AirComforter accessory. This in effect splits the double bed in two, creating entirely independent climate control systems.
The AirComforter accessory contains two hollow cavities that distribute the air from each BedJet to each half of the bed. The entire system keeps noise to a minimum, reaching just 39dB while in medium settings typical of all night operation. Prices start from $499.
