What this warning message is trying to say is that the program is using the local variable j past its lifetime: the function foo() placed the address of j into mainu2019s pointer p and returned. After it returns, j no longer exists, but the printf in main attempts to access that non-existing variable. Doing that results in undefined behavior, at which point the program becomes meaningless.

When I was in junior high and high school, I was terribly shy and socially awkward.

The next day in school, Betsy (one of the classmates we passed), asked, "Didn't you want to say hi?
