Have you switched to using stainless steel water & food bowls? I have a friend with an English Bulldog, that had the same thing. Switching to stainless, (opposed to plastic) helps cut down bacteria. Also washing bowls a few times a week, to disinfect helps. In addition to that, organic, raw apple cider vinegar works GREAT. Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse for Skin & Acne problems: Apply unpasteurized apple cider vinegar with the aid of a soft cotton ball, directly to burns or skin acne to soothe and promote healing. For dry itchy skin, hot spots, or skin infections you can bathe your pet in warm water then rinse him or her with a solution of 1 part apple cider vinegar to 3 parts water. This vinegar rinse will also leave their coats soft and shiny.

Try it on another computer first. Assuming you are using Windows XP, check this while you are iPhone is connected to the laptop: Go to START, then Control Panel, then System. In System Properties, click on the Hardware tab and then choose Device Manager. In the Device Manager window, scroll down to Universal Serial Bus Controllers and click on the to expand it. Is "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" present, or anything else pertaining to Apple? Re-installing iTunes might help too. There is a microchip inside the 3GS, as well as two MOSFET transistors, which can fail and cause the iPhone to no longer be respond to the USB port, but usually more simple things are responsible, like a faulty USB lead (try another), a dirty USB connector on the iPhone (clean it), a corrupt iTunes installation (re-install), etc. Does the iPhone actually charge when it's connected, or does it only say it's charging without the battery percentage increasing (or very, very slowly increasing)? Does the laptop make the dong-dong noise when you connect the iPhone to show a USB device has been detected?
