I think you mean a missing chunk out of the of wood? If so, fill the area with wood putty. Wood putty comes in a couple different colors. You want the orange color. After it has completely dried, sand it smooth. You might need to add more wood putty if you still have a couple divots. (Then sand again.) Apply Oak colored wood stain. Allow to sit a minute or two and wipe it off with a cloth. If you want to imitate a wood grain in the repair, re-apply more wood stain in streaks with a paint brush. Let sit and wipe again. You can find wood putty and wood stain at most hardware stores and at home improvement stores.
1. (PDF) Design and Development of Innovative Packaging for Agricultural Products
Tons of packaging ends up in landfills every day in the world and most of it is harmful to the environment. The scope of th is study was to research, design and propose package designs that reduce the toxicity of packaging by using eco-friendly materials and also encourage the re-use of the packaging by the end user, therefore reducing the amount of it being thrown away. Most of this research, d esign and prototyping w as c onducted through digi tal The basic objective of t he experiments conducted was the research into new raw materials to be used towards the formation of f lat stock material that will be use d to make the packaging. The raw materials considered were tree leafs and branches - removed under standard agricultural procedures - from the Olive, Vine and various fruit trees, as w ell as wood an d wood chips that are conside red as waste after normal woodworking operations. The raw materials from the trees were left to dry under controlled conditions (i.e. the leafs are pressed flat) for one month and then most of th e stock is crushed or cut into small particles and mixed with the woo d ch ip stock and glued via an ecological glue . Th en the mix was placed and pressed in a flat mold with h eat in order t o produce a flat stock. The dimensions o f the sample plates produc ed were 200 X 200 X 5 mm . Extensive research was conducted prior to th e design of the new packaging with the help of digital t echnology. A questionnaire was distributed to t wo regional clusters of farmers in o rder to define their n eeds. Research into current trends was al so conducted and the results of the research as a whole concluded into a design brief that was Rarely the packagi ng material is the same or co nnected with the conte nt of the packaging, Wood as a raw mate rial is increasingly use d in packaging, Wood and agricultural waste are ecologic al materials, and consumers increasi ngly are aware of this The design fo r re-use of the packaging of any product is extremely rare, but could make a difference w ith consumer choice if it w as offered. The met hodology of the desig n proces s was as follows: Through b rainstorming sessio ns many ideas w ere produced that were then sketc hed out and discussed again and his led to even more ideas being produce d. The ideas were then assessed and the best of them were developed further through the use of digital media and CAD software like AutoCad, Inventor, Ashlar - Cobalt and 3d Studio Max. Some prototypes were produced through digital 3D printing methods and others through conventional prototyping techniques. Finally, video an imations and drawings were produced in orde r to fully specify the solutio ns offered and illustrate t he usability and other desig n criteria . Flat stock material was produced in the laboratory in order to determine if such flat stock was appropriate to use for the construction of fruit and vegetable packaging . The results of the qual ity testing were enco uraging and
2. A series of questions about heating: wood stoves, pellet, furnace ect? Kansas City?
Check your local regulations for whether you can install a woodburning stove where you live, and what kind is approved. You will probably need an EPA approved one these days. Do not even think about 'modifying' an old one. They are pretty carefully designed, for the most part, and unless you are an expert you are more likely to ruin a stove than improve it. Catalytic is a system designed to burn some of the stove exhaust again so it emits less stuff. There are other ways of achieving the same end. Your choice which way you want to go. Pellet stoves work very well for some people, but they require electricity to work so are not so good for use when the power goes out. And you can not get pellets for free as you can with wood. If Home Depot runs out of pellets when you need them, you might be SOL for using your stove. Pellet stoves usually have a higher efficiency rating. For chimney requirements, check your local regs, again, but generally your chimney must be away from any part of your house that will obstruct airflow. Two or three feet above the nearest thing within 10 feet is a rough guideline for chimney placement. Masonry stoves and oil stoves are two different things altogether. Some stoves have firebrick, some do not . Usually it's sheet steel stoves that have it. Cast iron has enough mass that firebrick is not needed. I myself would prefer cast iron, but it is heavy. Woodstoves can be very hot to the touch, usually hottest on the front, top and firebox side if the firebox is on one side.
3. Can tapping on wood help identify what breed of wood it is?
To a WELL TRAINED ear, yes. To anyone, that has to ask, no
