In a China-Taiwan War, Would America Intervene and Force the ABC Population into Internment Camps?

"I think you are confused, or at least you are confusing me.nIt would not be right for the USA to intervene on the side of the mainland Chinese unless some reckless leader in Taiwan renewed the mid 20th century cry to , literally to "counterattack the mainland." If there was a movement in that direction I think the Joint Chiefs would be quick to point out the folly of such a move. Probably that assessment would go to the President first. The President would likely tell the leaders in Taiwan that the USA would not support them in initiating a war.nAny intervention made by the USA would be an attempt to prevent conflict. That position has been held by every President from Jimmy Carter on down. It would involve some kind of move much like Kennedy's "quarantine" of Cuba during the missile crisis.nJust what would be the USA's rationale for interning the American-born Chinese population? Some of those people, or their ancestors, came to the USA before World War II. Some are families that were anti-communist and came directly from the mainland as political refugees or from Taiwan. Some have more recently immigrated from mainland China. The ones from Taiwan are not necessarily anti-mainland, and the ones from mainland China are not necessarily anti-KMT or anti-Taiwan partisans. How would an authoritarian and unconstitutional policy determine which people to intern?nA rational administration would communicate clearly with any Chinese-American citizens or other Chinese living in the USA at the time. It would give them access to projections of the damages to both sides, information on defensive capabilities of the armada by then assembling in the Strait of Taiwan, its virtual invulnerability to "Assassin's Mace" weaponry, etc. The object would be to promote back-channel information transmission to responsible leaders on both sides of the Straits of Taiwan.

nOne of the realities that all players in such a situation would have to contend with is the inability of any of the leaders to figure out what would happen next. nIt seems to me that the USA and its many factional leaders and it horde of talking heads should all avoid talking us and them into a fight. I wouldn't want my friends and fellow citizens in the United States to die in a stupid war over face, I wouldn't want my friends in Taiwan killed defending against an invasion. I also would not want for them to kill other Chinese, young people drafted for military service by leaders who face no dangers themselves. Furthermore, I would not want my friends in mainland China, or their children, or their grandchildren killed by a real counterattack from Taiwan.nIt is also not out of the realm of possibility that some third party will intervene through psychological warfare and propaganda with a proposal: "Let's you and them fight!" I think I see a shadow falling over the prairie even though I can't spot the eagle.
