Is Taking Care of a Hermit Crab As Hard As These Websites Say It Is?

Well, darling, hermit crabs, when cared for the way the websites say, live to be more than 30 years old. Because you didn't do what they suggest, yours died earlier than they had to.

Cage: gotta be a tank, ten gallons or larger.

Food: commercial food contains preservatives that can actually lead to early hermit crab death and molting problems. They need fresh or dehydrated veggies, fruits, seafood, meat, and seaweeds to keep them healthy.

Water: unless you have well water, you either need to buy spring water or a dechlorinator because chlorine actually burns hermit crab gills.

Temperature and humidity: hermit crabs require a temperature of 75-80 degrees and a humidity level of 70-80%. The reason for the high humidity is that hermit crabs breathe through modified gills, so without humidity they slowly suffocate.

Substrate: hermit crabs need substrate at least twice as deep as they are. Playsand and Eco-Earth are the ONLY substrates that offer a diggable medium. They need to dig down into the substrate to molt. The substrate should be as moist as a sandcastle. Gravel and Calci-Sand do not offer correct digging medium.

That's just the beginning. Ask this same question on the forum I'm giving you below, people there are informed and will tell you the same thing.

Is my 2yr olds behavior normal?

it relatively is totally prevalent, and it relatively is honestly a sturdy factor. he's gaining some independence and he enjoys being those places. it relatively is not ordinary to be sure your baby leave your factor and not come working back to you, in spite of the undeniable fact that it relatively is great that he desires to spend time with the different little ones his age and along with his Aunt. I labored as a 2 year previous daycare instructor and that i seen some little ones that once months on no account stopped crying interior the morning and particularly situations could sit down and cry very practically all day long it substitute into not ordinary to be sure distinct those little ones so dissatisfied. most of the different little ones could get used to being there and comprehend their dad and mom could be getting them interior the afternoon and while they found out that they welcomed the assumption of coming in and playing. It grew to become greater of a ordinary for them as antagonistic to a burden. you're actually not doing something incorrect, and you mustn't sense responsible. If he had a undertaking with the situation then he'd probable be appearing up and crying once you took him everywhere. it relatively is not ordinary, yet a sturdy factor.

Pit Bull w/Kitten...Now Pit will not eat?

I have a huge German Shepherd that isn't a big eater. I've asked different sources on this issue and the answer that I've been given is to not only feed the dogs separately, but also to feed them on regular schedules. Put the food out and leave it out for only 20 minutes or so, and then put it away. Eventually the dog is going to get hungry enough to eat the food and they will get used to being on a regular schedule like that. If you leave the food out all day, the dog gets accustomed to it, and won't eat as well.

I highly doubt that your Pit Bull is going to eat your kitten because it is hungry. It might attack the kitten because it doesn't know how to interact with it, but it's not going to eat the kitten because it sounds like a tasty meal.

You are going to have to introduce the kitten to the dog and 'babysit' their interaction. It would be just like if you brought a child into the house. You wouldn't just assume that the dogs would be fine with the child and leave them together unattended. You have to supervise their meetings and interactions until they become accustomed to each other. You have to watch the dogs behavior and reward good behavior, and 'punish' bad behavior' Usually a good firm "NO" when the dog has done something undesirableis good enough, especially if the dog lives to please you.

I hope that's helpful!

What is wrong with my rat?

The sicknesses I am familiar with in Rat's are:

Upper Respiratory Infections, Brain Tumors and/or Brain Bacterial Infections, and Mammary Tumors.

For an Upper Respiratory Infection the Rat will be: Making a weird clicking noise with each breath, she may have something that resembles human vomit on her chin (but Rat's cannot regurgitate,) and she will seem very fatigued or tired and not as active as they normally are.

With a Brain Tumor or Brain Bacterial Infection the Rat will: Be extremely lethargic, possibly spinning in circles with her head tilted to one side, and not responding to their names or voices.

Lastly, with a Mammary Tumor the Rat could possibly be slightly lethargic, but not all Tumors make have symptoms, so you have to keep an eye out for lumps since they're extremely common in female Rats.

Listing these effects, it doesn't seem as if your rat has any of these three major conditions - but she could just be getting old or dying early (which I hate to say.) She could just have a cold, however, so make sure to have plenty of warm bedding and warmth for a Rat to snuggle up with!

**Oh, and to your reference of 'red around her eyes', that is known as Porphyrin which is a common, and non-serious discharge if released in moderation - however, excess porphyrin is a sign of possible stress to rats and/or other serious conditions.

I hope I help and I hope your Rat get's better!

How do I toilet train my 2 1/2 yr old boy?

I on no account genuinely had this undertaking, I had a woman, and he or she grew to become into, nicely, extra undemanding than this besides. yet i visit furnish some suggestion, in case you like it. save him indoors for a pair weeks. enable him run around without or with outfits on, in spite of he prefers. If he has a BM on the floor, enlist his help in cleansing it up. do no longer placed it him on a guilt trip on something, purely make it sparkling that each and every time he poops on the floor, he will help sparkling it up. provide lavish compliment for any time that he makes use of the potty. If mandatory, call up your husband at artwork and have him compliment your son too. do no longer undertaking approximately potty training in one day. with any luck in a pair weeks the region will advance. It feels like he purely desires to be on top of problems with the region. so so you might make it extra captivating for him to do what you like him to do, without putting any extra suitable stress on him. good success! And definite, at some point he would be experienced, he won't nonetheless be pooping on the floor in college or something.

How to keep a year old lab entertained during the day?

Labs are tricky, the more walking and running they do, the more energy they get, so it does take a lot of exercise to drain their energy. Kong's are a rubber toy and you stuff it with peanut butter or treats and it is supposed to keep a dog busy. Some dogs like them, some don't. I wonder if you could set up a video camera and see how she is getting into all this trouble. If a dog can't behave in the house when you are gone, then you crate them or confine them to a room. You also need to practice with training what she is allowed to do and what she isn't allowed to eat. Labs need to know the difference between work time and play time when you train them, so make sure when you are correcting a behavior you don't allow, that the dog knows you are serious and not playing a game with her. I like the command "shame" for when they do something wrong. I wonder if it would help if you practiced with her, showing her what she is allowed to have and correcting her on the things she isn't allowed to have. Most people know to keep their shoes away from dogs, but she shouldn't be eating books and knocking over shelves. You may have to ask your vet if they can suggest someone to help you with training. It is always nice to have someone actually show you corrections, and most people are willing to help

Getting a 2nd pug...what do I need to know??

Your best bet would be a male approximately the same age as your female (maybe 3 to 7).

Since your female is 5, she probably will have little patience for the antics of a puppy or young dog, but will want a companion who is an active adult, not a senior who just wants to sleep.

Getting the opposite sex would cause much less friction. In fact, the only actual dogfighting I've ever seen between two pugs was between two spayed females. My mom's pug and my sister's pug (both girls) still growl at each other and argue over toys, and they've known each other for 11 years.

That's not to say you couldn't make another combination work, just that the male/female, similar age combination would be easiest.

You are lucky that you have a dog that you can leave all day. You might not be able to expect that in your new pug. Definitely not, if you get a puppy - you will need to come home, or get someone to walk him while you're at work.

Males are typically harder to housebreak then females.

By the way, unless you own a lint-roller company, you'll probably want to keep to the same color (black or fawn) that you currently have, to avoid shedding emergencies.

What is the best dog for me? I have a big backyard?

Well first off, I would say get a "RESCUE" dog. There are rescues for just about every breed imaginable or you can get the BEST breed of all a Heinz 57 (mutt) from your local shelter. :)

We currently own a beagle/ jack russell mix (5 year old female- pound pup) who is by FAR the smartest dog I have ever owned- and I have owned/ fostered MANY dogs. Jack Russells are HIGH energy but as long as you can spend some time in the morning and evening giving them both physical and mental (tricks) exercise you shouldn't have any trouble with the 5 hours you are away.

We also own (or more accurately- are owned by) a rescue retired greyhound. If you are looking for a gentle giant who will be thrilled to take a run in the morning and then sleep for several hours you might want to look into a greyhound rescue. Unfortunately they ARE prone to separation anxiety even though they spend the first years of life without much affection. If you could afford 2 that would cut down on the separation issue.

A crate is very helpful for both you and your dog for those times when you will be away and at night- regardless which breed you choose. And they really do come to love "their" space. They often choose to go in their crate completely on their own.

Good luck
