Seeking to become the next hip-hop artist turned audiophile, the rapper 50 Cent recently unveiled a line of high-end headphones and accessories from SMS Audio. The line features two styles of headphones, the wired Street by 50 and the wireless Sync by 50, both with a sleek design and a high price: the Sync by 50 headphones will set you back about $400.The wireless headphones use Kleer technology, instead of Bluetooth, to produce 16-bit lossless digital sound up to 50 feet from the source, which is great for roaming around your apartment while listening to music.
And they have the ability to sync four users to one source, which comes in handy for playing video games with your buddies. Its also helpful when watching TV. Plug the dongle into your TV set and you can watch your favorite show from bed without disturbing your sleeping partner.
The dongle and the headphones need to be charged before use, but the headphones come with a single UBS charger, which means they have to be charged separately. Fortunately, a wired mic cable is supplied in case you want to use the headphones right away. The Sync headphones fit easily over the ears.
The cups are made of memory foam cushion covered with soft leather, and the volume and track controls are located on the exterior of the cups. The audio was clear and, thanks to enhanced bass, booming. However, the headphones do not actively cancel noise.
According to SMS Audio, this was intended to allow listeners to hear pure sound as it was recorded. The inflated price is too high to compete successfully with similar offerings from Dr. Dre and Ludacris.
But the headphones do come with a hard-shell case to protect your investment.Gadgetwise is a blog about everything related to buying and using tech products.
