Miracle Mattress will reopen "as soon as possible" with new employees and training after sparking national outrage with its advertisement for a 9/11-themed "Twin Tower Sale" during the 15th anniversary of the attacks, the San Antonio company said Thursday. The ad prompted a deluge of social media outrage and international media coverage last week after the company posted a video to showing manager and two employees proposing to honor the deadliest attack on American soil by selling mattresses of all sizes at twin bed prices. In the video, Bonanno knocks the two employees into two towers of stacked mattresses, toppling them as the three screamed.
Bonanno closes the video by saying in a somber tone, We will never forget.Miracle Mattress said Friday that it was promising to remain silent during the Sept. 11 anniversary.
The company has struggled with how to respond to the pain we caused and the deserved national outrage over this regrettable decision, owner Mike Bonanno said in a letter posted to Miracle Mattress Facebook page.We believe our best path forward is to re-open our doors as soon as possible, following the hiring of new staff and training, Mike Bonanno said. When we open, we will do so with a renewed focus on community support and humility.
The letter does not specify whether his daughter, Cherise Bonanno, and the two employees shown in the video were reprimanded, fired or left the company. A spokesperson for the company did not immediately return a call and email requesting comment Thursday afternoon.Mike Bonnano said Miracle Mattress will make a donation to Tuesdays Children a New York-based organization that supports youth, families and communities impacted by terrorism and traumatic loss and is searching for a San Antonio nonprofit to partner with to continue our donation program of mattresses and box springs for children in the San Antonio community.
We are truly sorry and regret the pain we have caused. We ask for forgiveness, Mike Bonanno said. To San Antonio, we simply say we are sorry for putting our community at the forefront of a national disgrace.
We ask for forgiveness and an opportunity to earn support in the future.
