NEW YORK-Home textiles suppliers are not short of creative ideas. Here is a select rundown of the new offerings this market. W-C Introduces CK Table Linens W-C Designs unveiled its newest license in table linens -- Calvin Klein.
In the same neutral shades that are seen in Calvin Klein dinnerware, the table linens line is centered around a basic program that includes tablecloths and napkins in solid, textured and sheer fabrics. Placemats and runners in novelty materials, such as felt, plastic and wicker, are also available. Tommy Reigns at Pillowtex Pillowtex's new Tommy Hilfiger basic bedding products focus heavily on back-to-school options.
In addition to comforters and pillows, the collection includes body pillows, back wedges and reading pillows. The company addresses both masculine and feminine looks with combinations of blue, yellow, pink and red in such geometric patterns as stripes and gingham. Tommy Hilfiger's Crest collection focuses on a higher-end, older customer with 330-thread-count jacquard bedding, trimmed with gold satin piping.
Products include a goose-down comforter, a gusseted goose-down pillow and a synthetic gusseted pillow. Outside of the designer brand, Pillowtex showed its colorful, quilted microtouch down comforter and its tone-on-tone plaid microtouch comforter. The Other Tommy This Tommy is Tommy Bahama, which got good reviews at its Jacob K.
Javits Convention Center booth. "It is all about luxury and quality in the island," said Gail Vasquez, corporate licensing director of Tommy Bahama. Four new bedding ensembles were shown at Javits.
The assortment includes two jacquard sheet patterns in 410-thread-count Egyptian cotton spun in Italy. Sferra Brothers, known for its 1,020-thread-count sheets, is Tommy's new partner. WestPoint Stevens's New Bag Last market, it was down-bed-in-a-bag.
This market it is a completer set, which includes two curtain panels, a valance and a decorative pillow in one bag. WestPoint Stevens also continued to expand its blend sheet program with its X-Static and a 310-thread-count 60/40 Egyptian cotton/polyester blend. The Vellux brand is also getting a new look.

Lichtenberg entered the shower curtain and decorative pillow business this market with previews of much-embellished designs in new fabrications. Highlights from the shower curtain line include feminine laces, sheer voiles with beads and slubs, harlequins and fish. Pillows are made in denim, canvas and faux suede, Persian lamb and other textures, and feature such trims as two-tone flange, beading, tassels, fabric-covered buttons and ties.
New Window Treatment Looks CHF Industries' upscale Peri line of window treatments unveiled its first microsuede panels, in four neutral colors and stitch accents, to coordinate with a new tapestry bedding group. The look is contemporary and fresh. With the return to very formal looks across the home furnishings categories, the window business has seen increased demand for valances, freestanding top treatments and such traditional curtains as the tucked "Austrian," that were commonly found in parlors and theaters at the turn of the century.
Smocking, tucking, pleating, rusching and heavy embellishment could be found throughout the market. Notable examples include Peri's Austrian of heavyweight silk dupioni tuck; Springs' Dutchess Satin three-piece jabot and toga-top treatments; and Richloom's opulent Medici group in gold and burgundy. Raw Edges, Pleats, Embroidery at Donna Karan As usual, apparel-inspired bedding ensembles were at Donna Karan's showrooms.
Among DKNY offerings was Victorian Chic, which showed Old-World elegance through a mixture of antique, ivory, parchment and black. The details were seen in the polka-dot mesh, lace inserts and embroidery. Perfect Fit Expands Luxury Bedding Offerings Perfect Fit's new Conforma collection offers a new option for upscale synthetic bedding.
The products are filled with a downlike cluster fiber and are covered with high-thread-count fabrications like 250-thread-count Egyptian and 300-thread-count cotton sateen. The line includes mattress pads, fiber beds and bed pillows. Pillows, which are available at different density levels, retail for $20 to $40.
The Conforma collection carries a lifetime guarantee, a first for Perfect Fit. "We're not sparing any expense," said Bill de Piazza, Perfect Fit's vice president of sales and marketing. "This is for that customer who's buying high-end mattresses and box springs.
" Elrene Goes Into the Kitchen With Villeroy & Boch Elrene Home Fashions has extended its Villeroy & Boch license with the debut of kitchen items like dish towels and oven mitts that feature some of the best-selling Villeroy & Boch patterns, such as French Garden and Switch Three. Bacova Rolls Out Sue Zipkin Bath Line Bacova showed two lines from the recently signed licensing agreement with Sue Zipkin, a dinnerware designer. Sweet Flowers is the bath version of Zipkin's Sweet Shoppe dinnerware line by Sango.
Kathy Fowlkes, bath business manager, said she feels confident about this design because of its success in dinnerware. The collection includes a poly-taffeta shower curtain with a watercolor floral pattern, hand-painted ceramic accessories, a white terry towel with a heat-transfer band and a nylon heat-transfer printed bath mat. The basket and tissue box are also available in plastic.
The collection has a bright, whimsical look that would be appropriate for any age group, Fowlkes said. The second collection, Zippy Fish, with its whimsical fish design in highly detailed and bright water colors, has a more juvenile feel. Flo Baron Takes New Bath Lineup to Javits To showcase its new bath line, The Flo Baron Collection rented a booth at the Jacob Javits Convention Center to supplement its permanent showroom.
The seven new collections include hard accessories as well as textiles, such as shower curtains, pillows and throws. Styles range from contemporary patterns, such as Vogue, to traditional designs and florals, like Monet's Garden. Biederlack Targets Book Lovers Biederlack's newest product line is designed to appeal to those who love to curl up with a good book.
The collection incorporates woodcut portraits of six legendary authors: William Shakespeare, Louisa May Alcott, Mark Twain, Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allan Poe and Charles Dickens. The authors' portraits are featured on a line of woven microfiber throws. For avid readers, the company offers the Book Worm, a crescent-shaped lap pillow designed to support tired arms, and the Book Jacket, a microfiber throw that is designed to wrap around the shoulders and upper body, with openings for the arms.
Designs include decorative animal-print trim. The line is rounded out with "NovelTy" pillows in the shape of leather-bound classic novels. Products range from $10 to $25.
United Feather Reaches Sleepy Kids The sleep needs of children are addressed with United Feather & Down's new Remmy Kids' Sleep Collection. The line is developed in partnership with Dr. James Maas, sleep educator and author of the book "Remmy and the Brain Drain," which teaches kids about getting a good night's sleep.
The collection includes bedding products in toddler and kid sizes, including a bed pillow, comforters, blankets and mattress pads. Products come in down or two different types of down alternative fills. "Our aim is to educate kids and parents how to have a better night's sleep," said Robert J.
Hickman, vice president of sales and marketing for United Feather. According to Maas, only 15 percent of elementary kids are getting the amount of sleep they need. Products range from $30 for a pillow to $130 for a down or down-alternative blanket.
