The Clouds Are Making Music

The morning was dreary and wet. The weather forecast said severe thunderstorms would start around 2 p.m.Just before 2 p.m., I realized that I had used tonights main ingredient for last nights side vegetable.I decided to risk it. As my daughter figured out which rain boot fit on which foot, I told myself to grab the umbrella. But then I remembered we needed shopping bags. We walked to the car, each carrying a shopping bag, neither of us carrying the umbrella, as the light rain misted our hair.A little after 2 p.m., I was bagging our groceries when elephants started stomping on the stores roof.

We looked out the windows and saw the rain dumping angrily from the sky.My daughter was well-equipped for the weather in her hooded jacket and rain boots. I was not. My feet were protected by only my comfy sneakers. The sort of shoes that are totally breathable and not at all waterproof.As luck would have it, the whole parking lot was one giant puddle. The puddle swallowed my foot before I could gauge its depth. My daughter laughed when I told her my socks were squishy. She laughed the whole way home as I steered around lake-sized puddles.The clouds are making music, Mommy! she yelled over the thunder from the backseat.

Lots of laughs and lots of smiles, despite the weather. It was a good day
