Star Wars: The Clone Wars is a 2008 American computer-animated epic space-opera film directed by Dave Filoni, produced by Lucasfilm Animation, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film is set in the Star Wars universe during the Clone Wars, a three-year conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, which started at the end of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002). Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker is assigned an apprentice, Ahsoka Tano, and together they attempt to deliver Jabba the Hutt's kidnapped son Rotta back to his father, facing opposition from the Sith Lord and Separatist leader Count Dooku. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan Kenobi attempts to negotiate a treaty between the Republic and the Hutts, but clashes with Dooku's apprentice Asajj Ventress, who has kidnapped Rotta as part of a plot to frame the Jedi and turn Jabba against the Republic. Simultaneously, Padmé Amidala discovers that Dooku is in league with Jabba's uncle Ziro, who plans to have Jabba arrested by the Republic so that he could take over his criminal empire.

The film premiered on August 10, 2008, at Grauman's Egyptian Theatre, followed by a wide release in Australia on August 14 and in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom the next day. The Clone Wars was the first Star Wars film to not be distributed by 20th Century Fox, and served as the pilot to the television series of the same name, which debuted on October 3, 2008 on Cartoon Network. It was the first film in the Star Wars film series to be completely animated. The film received largely negative reviews, becoming the worst reviewed theatrically released Star Wars film with critics panning the writing, animation, tone, dialogue and the decision to release the pilot episodes as a feature-length film. While the film was a commercial success, grossing $68.3million worldwide against an $8.5million budget, it is also the lowest grossing Star Wars film. The series of the same name ran for six years, then went on hiatus for six more years before releasing a final season in 2020, and had a far more favourable reception than the film.

The events of the film chronologically take place between Season 1's episode, "The Hidden Enemy", and Season 3's episode, "Clone Cadets". The film introduces the characters Ahsoka Tano and Captain Rex to the franchise.
