Which is the best compiler for C & C programming?

There provably isnt a best compiler.If I recall theres a theorem saying no optimizing compiler can make the shortest code for any given input. (Optimizing compiler: It has been shown that some code optimization problems are NP-complete, or even undecidable.

)There are Superoptimization(at least for short code), you could have one compiler instruct two or more compilers to compile, and compare the lengths and choose the shortest output. Note however shorter code may or may not mean faster code, I guess the theeorem takes it into account, using length in cycles. On top parallelism, makes this complicated.

That does not get around the dilemma. Im not sure if such is used internally, say in GCC, but I believe it often gets you faster code than Clang. The latter is however often faster at compiling.

Clearly theres a tradeoff between fast compilation, and speed of the compiled code. Then you would also bring up Whole_program_optimization (I believe superoptimizers do not work with, or not practical for). Typing and WPO have much to to with compilers.

Its not clear to me that C (or C) has better, usable typing information, than Julia language; thus Julia is as fast as C (or can be), even faster (Ive seen one case, maybe thats the future if it has better type information)
