I say hello once, it seems robotic calls want to here you speak more than once before they start their recorded message. so I say hello once, wait a couple of seconds and say goodbye and hang up. If someone on the other end wants to talk they usually speak in a couple of seconds.

auto dialers will signal the caller that someone has answered a call, and it takes them a couple of seconds to react to that and many times I've heard a voice just as I say goodbye and disconnect
