Now if you want a really pretty one, like a lutino, expect to pay about $100 with a breeder. A gerbil because they love to be handled, there friendly, social, and very fun! You do not need two but its recommended because they get lonely. You should not use a cage, you should use a 10 to 20 gallon tank with a cover. I would say the hamster bites more and if you got a hamster, u would have to clean the cage more. The price for a gerbil is 11.99 at petsmart and 13.something at petco. A hamster is anywhere from 16 to 20 dollars. Gerbils do not need toys really but i have a wheel for them, toilet paper rolls for them to chew on, and one small hideout for them. My overall opinion is gerbils are very fun and hamster just scare me.
