His books are all in there, his clothes, his bed, a couple of beanbags, and a tunnel. Nothing too exciting...toys just tempt him and take time away from sleep
1. Have any of you shopped petco recently??
I dont shop at PetCo. I get my dogs food at a Feed store where I know they keep the food stored right. I feed Natures Variety and that has to be kept very well. I hate these large chain pet places. I dont even go in there for toys. Always so dirty
2. Chihuahua toys!!!?
Believe it or not my chi's play with cat toys! The feather chasers, the balls for cats, also fyi, they love dingo bones, the really tiny ones:) A friend who has owned them for over 10 years taught one of hers to fetch, it can be done
3. Inexpensive Toys For 3 Degus? Homemade Toys?
You can use socks (old ones you do not mind them destroying), cardboard tubes (paper towel roles, toilet paper roles), cardboard, wood blocks, dog toys(nylabones, those material knot toys), bird ladders, bird mirrors, ropes, kleenex boxes, stuffed animals you do not mind he tear up, rawhide (though not too much -- hard to digest), anything rubber, or cardboard, basically. All those are fairly cheap. :) Good luck!
4. NEED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT SYRIAN HAMSTERS?
1) Any color... like everyone else has said it wo not affect the pet. Do not fall for marketing ploys that say certain colors like Panda Bear are friendlier... I can assure you that a syrian is just a syrian. 2) There is only one type of syrian. If the description says Panda Bear or Cream or Tortoiseshell it is simply referring to the coat color or pattern. It is still just a syrian. 3, 4) This is up to you. My Panda Bear female is named Jasmine since she is very beautiful... I thought Jasmine from the movie Aladdin suited her. I've had males that my daughter named after her friends. Just wait a day or so to observe his/her behavior and that can help you out... or maybe something about her coloring can help you. 5) I never put anything in their cage other than a running wheel. Too many toys can take up too much of hamster's room and most of mine have ignored toys. I do not see a hamster needing a hammock for anything as they will want to sleep in a nest that they made on their own. 6) I use pine and have for several years. Cedar will make them sick. I know people say that pine is bad but there is no scientific evidence to support this. I have asked my vet about this and he always kept his animals on pine and he says that it is just a rumor. 7, 8) There is only one type of syrain. Females may be slightly smaller than males. Size will depend on the hamster's genetics. 9) You should shop at night when all hamsters will be awake. You should ask to put your hand in the hamsters' cage so that you can see their behavior. Shy skittish hamsters will stay away from you but friendlier hamsters will be curious and come over to investigate your hand. There is NO difference between male and female hamster personalities. I have had 3 females and 2 males and out of those I've had 1 male and 1 female that were very antisocial. The rest were all very very sweet. However, I have noticed a difference in their behavior depending on whether they came from a large chain pet store versus a small individually owned store. My 2 hamsters that were very antisocial came from PetSmart, whereas the other 3 came from a small locally owned store. However, now that small store has closed after 30 years of business and the only stores near me are Petco and PetSmart, so I do not have a choice. When you do finally get a hamster, ask the associate to let you have some shavings right from his/her cage. Moving to a new home is stressful for hamsters and they like to have a familiar smell to help ease their worries. Our hamster Chloe used her pet store shavings to make a nest in her cage so I know it was very comforting for her to have that.
