When did the US become a world power? 1898, after the Spanish-American war. The conclusion of the war was the end of Spain being a world power and the US start to be one. After the US won, it had the Phillipines, Puerto Rico, and to a lesser extent, Cuba. That gave them a powerful foothold. Furthermore, the US started to being operations outside of North America after the conclusion of it. From WW1, to the Banana wars, to the Philippines revolts, the US started exerting it's influence.The US, and this isn't really up for discussion, became a superpower after WW2. The British Empire was decaying, and the rest of the world had been damaged to much. The US though was relatively untouched, and gained a huge economic and foreign alliance advantage. They were only met by the main victors in Europe that did the main fight in the region, the Soviet Union.

The war was basically that the majority of the fighting in Europe was won by the Soviets, the Pacific won by the Americans, with Britain being a very important 3rd ally helping eveeye here with its empire, including Africa, Europe, the Atlantic, and Southeast Asia. Michael Jordan was one of the greatest scorers in NBA history, took the league by storm with impressive presence on both ends of the floor, and a lot of those steals fueled his own offense, leading to his famous signature breakaway dunks. So that caught peoples attention.Plus, MJ leading the league in steals was a big deal because he was the ultimate double threat, dominating the whole league by far on offense and defense as well. Thats quite a feat for a 66 guard, who could defend positions 14, picking the ball off a point guards dribble. He was quicker and lower than expected for a guy his size. A perfect defensive stance, very sound, and covering the passing lanes with abandon. As a leading scorer, he was not just playing decent defense, he was leading the league as well. In a league where most scorers didnt play defense and defensive specialists led the league in steals and blocked shots, he was up there in all categories.Stephen Curry leading the league in steals was great, but didnt have the same impact because he is a small point guard on a championship team, he is supposed to be quick and should be in the top 10 in steals. Is leaning too far left with a presidential candidate a mistake for defeating Trump?

There is no such thing as left in American politics. The last leftists might have died in the 1960s, although its p;ossible that a few old ones are still alive, living in storefronts in Berkeley and eating cat food. Or you could point to, perhaps, some rowdy kids in Seattle, but they are powerless and not politicians.

A leftistpolitician in 2019 America is actually a capitalist centrist. There are also right capitalist centrists. Both of them dont really go left or go right, they kind of sway while standing in place.

This is why, in case you havent noticed, that none of Americans pressing problems ever get solved.Of course, we do have a radical element in American politics, mistakenly called conservatives. That radical element are actually more accurately termed reactionaries.

Trump, for instance, is a reactionary, and even a proto-fascist, as are some GOP members of congress. Proto-fascism is easily identified with some forms of American Christianity, which, when politicized, is also reactionary, or as we use the term for non-politicized religion, fundamentalist. Same thing in a different arena.Trump can be defeated, but Trumpism is now as much a part of American life as other forms of utter stupidity. Is it true that the SAS soldiers in the Falklands Conflict left notes by Argentine soldiers sleeping in the open which read "Bang, bang - you're dead!"?

This alleged incident may or may not be true. I dont know.However, I have qualms about the answers that mock the story or call such a gambit bad soldiering.I think those answers underestimate the superiority of British special ops and infantry professionals over poorly trained and poorly supplied Argentine conscripts in the Falklands, especially late in the war.

(The hardest-fought part of the war was on the coast where British ships had to land troops and equipment under dangerous fire from courageous and competent Argentinian air forces. The infantry endured some sharp fights, but overall their toughest enemy was weather and rough terrain on their overland march to Port Stanley.)The British had very cogent moral and public-relations motives for NOT killing Argentinians except when absolutely necessary. They wanted to win the peace, not stain their honor with a pointless bloodbath. The world and a lot of South Americans were watching. How their sons were treated by the British would echo in their hearts, minds and policies for decades or generations.

I find it totally believable that such troops in such a situation would judge that embarrassing and terrifying their amateur foes would be both more honorable and more productive in the long term than slaughtering kids in their sleep
