When Looking for Dog Toys, What Do You Look For?

something that they can chew, but tastes good

1. What kind of Dog Toys and Treats I have to use?

do your dog a favor -- never ever give it rawhide anything. It's very bad for dogs, along with the cooked bones you might see at stores. The rawhide usually comes from China or overseas somewhere, and it's hard to tell where it's been before it gets to the USA. And it's never inspected. Along with this, rawhide can get all tangled up in a dog's intestinal tract. The cooked bones can splinter and sharp, splintered bones can cause internal damage, too. As far as what your dog might like? Youre going to have to try things with her. Best wishes

2. Where can I buy cheap dog toys?

dont buy dog toys from the dollar store. the quality isnt that good. theres always a lot of toys at petsmart that are on sale!

3. Good dog toys for dog over 100lbs?

I am a kong fan, yes they can be boarding, but you can stuff them, put kibble and water or high value treat inside and freeze them, takes my neighbors Bernie about 45 minutes of lick, frustration and attention. He knows there's good stuff inside and he can not power chew it out - every time he does it shoots across the floor, he gives chase and settles down with it. Next fun long is to hang it from a rope, just above the dogs natural head top line, put some stuffing in it and watch the fun. This is a supervised game but the dog seems very focused, does not have to stand on hind legs, just stretch neck and head up. Takes a while to lick out. Some dogs loose interest while others are very focused. There are new products out that have squeakies in them advertised as puncture proof squeakers inside. They are more expensive than most toys but are like firehose with fake fur on them and heavy duty rubber squeakers inside, my last dog was able to only kill 2 of 12 squeakers, even then they still made a hissing noise, he would grab the snake and pull for all he was worth.... Lost some fur but the toys in tact. We even tried it at the dog park and it survived. The snake lost it's felt like eyes but no worse for wear. We have had that toy almost 15 months. We baby sit friends dogs a lot even the bully breeds have not destroyed it, and it's survived a mastiff ( really need washing after). Wolfhound, pitbull, bull terrier, St. Bernard and over aggressive chewing machine lab cross. They have a rawhide saver out that's a rubber hourglass kind of shape, ruffhides? I believe. You stretch them over a pre cut sized rawhide and the dog does not have full access to the rawhide, it advertises days worth of chewing..... Apparently they never had a frustrated chewer before, mine will work at it, drool on it and pull for every ounce of every he has, he even trembles with excitement as he works on getting his goodie out of the rubber puzzle. The longest it lasted were the first few times of 5 to 6 hours. Keep in mind a rawhide piece lasts less than 2 minutes, a 3 foot big rawhide bone with double knots was around 30 to 40 minutes. The refills are not quite double the price of regular ride hides of the same size but we found certain retriever rolls could be sawed down to size and fit in the toy, we get 3 refills per roll usually. It just has to be same length and about the same circumference to fit. It also takes himalayan chews put out by the company. Plain old fashioned cotton lead ropes used for horses, I cut the bull snap off the end, knot it, soak it in water and freeze it. Usually given in the kitchen so water mess does not matter. Excellent chewing toy for tethers, put a little dash of peanut butter or treat that spreads over a inch of he rope to attract the dog to chew and lick. This lasts about an hour. They are not very interested in them without the cheating starting area, however once they get started they love chewing on the frozen rope. Again supervised activity, they do have dog ropes made from the exact same manufacturers as does the lead ropes and they come pre tied. I can get the ropes for around $5.00 on sale. The dog version which is half a rope comes with knots in it and sells for $14.00. Use common sense and like most all play toys including tennis balls, any tug toy, bone real or otherwise needs to be supervised by their human for choking. Even the kongs need supervision since a dog can get just about anything stuck inside its mouth. I have had 3 super chewers over the years, my current boy drives me nuts. I have found these helpful to keep him occupied and content on the days he is not able to work. My last fun thing was to half fill a 5 quart ice cream pail with water, freeze it. Freeze 1 cup of the dogs favorite treats, veggies or even fruit that's safe for dogs. When they are frozen put the cup molded treats in the center of the ice pail, add an inch of water and refreeze. Once solid fill the pail with water covering the treat block and wait until frozen solid. When you have time to kill and he has outside time break the ice out of the pail and serve. We usually chip a small hole so the dog can smell the good is frozen inside the ice block. It is messy, it gets the dog wet but usually dries well with just a brush out. My guy needs weekly baths because of his job, so I do not mind of he turns into a mud monster, but the days he does not get a bath and has this special treat we just serve in a well covered grass spot. My vet liked the idea of a busy toy and it's more of a licking thing than chewing. I usually save these for special occasions with my boy. It can be done for smaller dogs too using smaller amounts and containers. Sorry so long.
