By todayu2019s standards nearly everyone was racist to an extent. It was a common belief in the US (and most western nations) that blacks were mentally inferior. Even Abraham Lincoln, who was famous for ending slavery, believed that blacks were inferior as a race.
Lincoln said u201cIf slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong.u201d and was against slavery much of his political life, but he also said u201cThere is a physical difference between the white and black races that will for ever forbid the two races from living together on terms of social and political equalityu201d.He was not alone.
That was a common belief at the time. Actually it wasnu2019t really a belief, it was a virtual certainty. Even many abolitionists thought blacks to be inferior.
Washington and Jefferson both disliked the idea of slavery, but their livelihoods relied on the institution, so they were loathe to free their slaves until after their deaths. They both believed blacks to be inferior even though they were uncomfortable with slavery. Benjamin Franklin was one of the great thinkers of his time.
He owned two slaves and believed, like pretty much everyone else, that blacks were inferior. The he visited a school for black children. Imagine that he was actually surprised by what he saw and wrote a friend "I was on the whole much pleased, and from what I then saw, have conceived a higher opinion of the natural capacities of the black race, than I had ever before entertained.
Their apprehension seems as quick, their memory as strong, and their docility in every respect equal to that of white children." Today that would be a surprise to few. It was actually a revelation to Franklin, who then became an ardent abolitionist.
If you mean the leader who did the most to keep blacks down. It might have been Woodrow Wilson. By the early 20th century it was obvious to most progressive whites that blacks could be their intellectual equal.
Fredrick Douglas, George Washington Carver, Sojourner Truth, Booker T. Washington, William Monroe Trotter, W. E.
B Du Bois and others were intellectual giants and had gained some renown. After the Civil War blacks started making gains within the federal government. They had jobs in may federal departments, moved into middle management and sometimes even supervised whites.
But u201cJim Crowu201d started seeping into the federal government. When black leaders asked him to address this, he instead doubled down and backed his cabinet officials who were implementing segregation in federal jobs. He set back black progress decades in federal jobs.
By todayu2019s standards, the better question might be who was the least racist leader in US history, considering the zeitgeist of their day. The answer would probably be John Adams and John Quincy Adams and perhaps Ulysses S. Grant.
Who was the most racist leader in US history?.

What unpopular thoughts do you have about Harry Potter?
Okay ( dont avada kedavra me please ) 1. Book and Film HermioneBook Hermione was realistic, and had a very well story, but, I think that Hermione from the films was too pretty. ( In the books, she had a brown, bushy hair, brown eyes, large front teeth, she was bossy, but very logical and clever )I think that Hermiones hair is pretty good in the Philosophers Stone, beacuse it really looked like Hermiones hair.
They made the film Hermione look like some kind of goddess, who is smarter than Dumbledore and even the whole Ministry of Magic.( By the way, I really love Hermione, she is my second favourite character and I also like Emma as an actress, but I just think that film Hermione is overrated, and the book version is just realistic and beautiful in her own way. ) 2.
Ginny can be rudeFirst, I like Ginny. I just dont like the film edition, beacuse she was shy, quit, she didnt speak too much, and she, in my opinion of course, was just awkward. Book Ginny was the opposite, loyal, bold, funny, and she was very beautiful.
But, while reading the books ( mostly the Half-Blood Prince ) , I felt like she was a little bit well, dont get me wrong. She just vent to far for me. Like, she suddenly beacame a badass , and hexed people when they annoyed her.
I mean, Ginny was a real fighter, but I just think she could be rude sometimes.Like, when she said to Hermione that Hermione should not talk about Quidditch, beacuse she doesnt know anything about it. Of course, Hermione was bad at Quidditch, but Ginny should not attack anyone by their weaknesses.
I just think that Cho > Harry > Ginny thing vent too fast. That is, of course, just mine opinion. 3.
Snape was a bad teacherFirst of all, I like Snapes character. He ended up like a hero, and he was a brave man, he changed, and was a good person. But, he was a bad teacher.
Yeah, he was very smart and witty, he knew really much about Dark Arts, and also was a Potion Master. His knowlege really impressed me. But, his acting as a teacher was bad.
First, he had his favourite students. He would be mad on someone beacuse their werent Slytherins. He hated Gryffindors the most.
I mean, he have his reasons which I understand, but if you are a teacher, you cant just have your favourites in class and rise them, without loving the others just beacuse they are in the different house ( I remember when he was rude to Hufflepuffs, and maybe even Ravenclaws )He was rude to Harry too much, and to Ron, Hermione. Even Neville was scared od him! His boggart is not terrorizing his parents at all, but Snape himself!
So these were my unpopular opinions, they are just opinions, there is no need to judge. Well, I hope this helped!

Ex-Hindus: Why did you convert from Hinduism or became an atheist?
I was fairly religious in my childhood. I believed that all gods are actually just one God. I used to pray to all religion's gods I knew.
I used to dress and be the person who used to perform the poojari in any festival at my home especially krishna janamastami. At the same time I used to go to churches and pray with my Christian friend every time. I had read the Bible (NT) and the epics (Mahabharata and Ramayana).
My journey away from religion was slow with me resisting my logic every time. In my late teens I read the old testament and that immediately led to me to stop believing Yahweh atleast. The main reason for me being an atheist is George Carlin.
I liked comedy as a genre and I started listening to first Russell Peter (ya cringe now) then slowly somehow through the internet came to know George Carlin. I started listening to him. He was brilliant .
In the beginning whenever he used to talk about religion, I uaed to disregard it saying 'Its not my religion he's talking about'. I watched more and more stand ups and always had this cognitive dissonance when it came to topics about religion. But over a year or so I started thinking about what he was saying.
Like I said it was a gradual process, I never woke up one day as an atheist. I started researching on my own about religions. I went first through a phase where I stopped believing in prayers including requests to God because I believed god had a plan and whatever I pray for will not happen as a result of praying but what was predetermined.
Then came my deist phase where I believed that a supreme being exists but never intervenes in the worldly matters. Here I stopped praying. The a belief that the supreme being created this universe then left to create another universe and that being might be even unaware of the creation of this universe.
From this phase and to this day , i started wondering the origin of the 'gods and their names' whenever I entered any place of worship. Then I became an agnostic . This whole process took maybe 1 1/2 years.
So now for 5 years I've become an Agnostic atheist (Agnostic part where at this point, a deist non intervening God can not be disproved). It's still the same. My life has not changed much at all in day to day lives.
Except I don't go to temples or do any religious fasts. Also after I became an atheist I discovered other Atheists on Twitter and subscribed to YouTube(AA, Thebiblereloaded, creationist cat etc) for entertainment. I also have become more rational in my outlook.
Most of the people don't know my Atheism, a lot suspect I think , but they never ask. If anyone asks me though I do say I am an atheist.
