It's most likely that your cable is not working or you have the visual/audio plugs in wrong

1080P is the highest resolution available for TVs now.Contrast ratio will give you a sharp picture e.g. 20,000 :1 or 50,000 :1 the higher the number for this the brighter the colors will be and the darks will be great instead of looking milky gray color. Now the new LED TVs the contrast ratio on some are in the millions 1,000,000 :1 a few are higher and the picture is just awesome,they have traits of LCD in not having to worry about burn in,and they have Plasma traits with the contrast ratio being high so they have the best of both worlds I would say.But the new LED TVs cost a pretty penny,so I would say some new Plasma are worth looking at but those require some care in keeping the picture looking great,they have a feature that gets rid of picture retention(burn in) that should be used regularly to keep picture retention down.For LCD you will be fine in the 20,000 :1 or higher for the contrast ratio,also make sure the response time is 8 milliseconds or less so you wo not get a spacey effect on fast action movies.

You probably reset the microprocessors when you changed sockets and it may be OK now. If you find you still have problems take it back for replacement or refund. It has technical problems.

No there is not a huge difference on a 32 inch TV. You probly wont be able to see a difference unltil going over 42 to 50 inch then you can see the difference,and a good 720p even at 42 looks great.Read reviews of samsung d490 a 720p 3D set thats very highly rated and at 50 inch people love it.

as opposed to partial HD? they do not make non HD tvs anymore. samsung makes some nice 32" TVs around that price.

I would suspect dirt on the remote or the set sensor. Battery change after cleaning the electrodes and make sure nothing else is aiming signals at the TV

Get a screen cleaning kit. It will come with a weak alcohol solution and a blue micro-fiber cloth. Let the TV get cold. Spritz the top half of the screen, having paper towels handy to catch drips before they hit the bottom frame of the screen. Wait a full minute. The weak alcohol solution takes time. Gently wipe in 1 direction with the micro fiber cloth. Repeat for the lower half. Take care to not rub any spot or you can polish the screen or rub off anti-glare coating. Examine the screen for any left over spots and spray/wait/wipe if needed. NOTE: People have ruined their nice HDTV by using strong windex or glass cleaner products.
