Now one company thinks it has the answer.
A 3D printing firm has designed a pair of earbud-catching earrings that will catch the tiny white Airpods should they fall out of the listener's ears.

While the 'Twisty Earbud Catchers' aren't available to buy, 3D printing company M3D has made the design available for free download.
This means that anyone with access to a 3D printer can download the design and make the functional jewellery items themselves.
Alternatively, they can enlist a 3D printing company online to make the earrings for them.
The 3D printing design is available on Thingiverse , an online community for sharing 3D-printable designs.
So far, only handful of people have 'liked' the design on Thingiverse's page suggested the earrings won't actually be worn be too many Airpod users.
Apple introduced the new Airpods in September at the same event where it unveiled its new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus handsets.
The wireless earbuds were released to complement the new devices, with Apple having taken the controversial decision to ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Apple fans immediately expressed concern that the wireless $159 (£159) earphones could easily fall out of the wearer's ear and get lost.
While the Airphones aren't especially expensive compared to similar products, rival wireless earphones tend to be tethered to each other, while Apple's earbuds are entirely independent.
Critics argue that this may make them easier to lose.
However, many users have stated that the Airpods are more secure than they appear.
